Compliance you can see and act on

Since June 2025 the European Accessibility Act requires most ebooks sold in the EU to be accessible. Origami checks each title with Ace by DAISY, the reference accessibility checker for EPUB, against WCAG 2.1 and EPUB Accessibility 1.1, and shows you precisely where a file falls short.

Alt text, language declarations, heading structure, reading order, tables, ARIA and the accessibility metadata stores display — all in one report. Where issues are mechanical, Origami’s AI repair can fix them for you; the rest is flagged for a human, so nothing silently slips through.

Questions about EPUB accessibility

What is Ace by DAISY?
Ace by DAISY is the accessibility checker for EPUB built by the DAISY Consortium, the body behind the accessible-publishing standards. It is the reference tool the industry uses to evaluate EPUB accessibility.
Does this make my book compliant with the European Accessibility Act?
It tells you exactly where a title stands and fixes much of what is mechanical. Full compliance can still need human judgement — for example on meaningful alt text — and Origami flags those clearly.
What can AI repair fix automatically?
Mechanical gaps such as missing language declarations, accessibility metadata and some structural issues. Anything that needs editorial judgement is flagged for review.
Which standards do you check against?
WCAG 2.1 Level AA and EPUB Accessibility 1.1, via Ace by DAISY.
Can I check my whole backlist?
Yes — run titles individually or audit your catalogue to prioritise remediation.

Accessibility checking runs Ace by DAISY, maintained by the DAISY Consortium under the MIT license, against WCAG 2.1 AA and EPUB Accessibility 1.1 (W3C).
